Final Fantasy 16 will be released later this year, so fans of the long-running JRPG game won't have to wait long. The game will be released shortly, marking the first mainstream entry into the series since 2016's FF15.
Final Fantasy 16 appears to be a radically different game from its predecessor, with a Medieval Europe-inspired aesthetic. This is a big cry from the lighter-toned roadtrip boyband shenanigans of FF15.
We know a lot about Final Fantasy 16 now that the curtain has been lifted. It appears to provide a new fighting system that combines the fast-paced action of Final Fantasy 15 with some of the concepts seen in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It definitely appears to be a visual feast, featuring next-gen visuals on PS5 and some fantastic art direction.
To keep you up to date on all things Final Fantasy 16, this website will be updated with the most recent news and speculations. For the time being, here's all we know about the game, including every trailer, gameplay clip, and more.
Platform
Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. This was announced during The Game Awards 2022, along with a new teaser. Given that Diablo 4 also announced a June release date, this puts it up against some serious competition.
Sony has officially stated that, while Final Fantasy 16 is a PS5 exclusive, it will only be for six months. It will most likely be revealed shortly after for PC platforms. This information was just incorporated in a trailer.
We now know that the plot and adventure in Final Fantasy 16 will take place in the country of Valisthea.
The Earth is connected to six separate Mothercrystals that have existed for generations. Six mighty countries have built up around the Mothercrystals throughout this period, and each region now lives in relative peace. As is often the case in Final Fantasy, the Mothercrystals' blessings have allowed these powers to grow and their people to live comfortably.
Of course, we learn that the crystals have caused "countless wars," which eventually resulted in the formation of the six nations now present in the game: the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, the Iron Kingdom, and the Crystalline Dominion.
Each location sees the world differently, which naturally leads to some political differences between the nations. However, we know that the appearance of a "Blight" that is spreading over the nation is driving these various abilities insane. This is most likely where the game will begin; in the midst of this volatile period.
Producer Naoki Yoshida stated in a radio interview (via Kotaku) that while Final Fantasy 16 would be "action-oriented," it is "developing into a Final Fantasy that combines both story and action." "We genuinely want people to appreciate the tale, so we're planning a mode for individuals who want to focus on the plot," Yoshida says.
"I think that as you become an adult, you also comprehend sorrow," he continued, implying that the novel may deal with more mature issues. As a result, those who grew up watching Final Fantasy are familiar with the actual world. Even yet, they wish to indulge in fantasy once more. They can take something away from it and think about it. "I'm thinking of making this a theme [for the game]."
